Product Overview

The YSHIELD® U230 is a professional-grade four-layer shielding underlay membrane delivering 111 dB attenuation — one of the highest shielding performance values YSHIELD has ever achieved in a series product. Designed for use in roofs, facades and drywall construction, the U230 functions simultaneously as a wind-tight, waterproof, thermally reflective building membrane and a high-performance RF shielding layer, eliminating the need for separate shielding and construction membranes.

The micro-needled aluminium foil layer is engineered with 200,000 tiny holes per square metre, providing exceptional water vapour permeability without any compromise to shielding effectiveness. The 90 cm width is deliberately sized to allow worldwide parcel shipping without bulky goods surcharges. Manufactured in-house at YSHIELD in Germany.

Installation

The U230 is designed for professional installation. Application method is consistent with established practice for water-vapour-diffusible, waterproof, reflective membranes in roofs, facades and drywall construction — standard procedure well understood by builders, planners and architects.

  • Membranes must always be applied overlapping, without gaps
  • Holes for mechanical fastening must be kept as small as possible
  • The aluminium side must always be laid towards the inside of the building — the brand imprint should be visible
  • This orientation also protects the aluminium layer against corrosion

Grounding

This product has an electrically conductive surface and must be integrated into the functional-equipotential bonding (FEB) system. Grounding must be carried out by a licensed electrician in compliance with AS/NZS 3000 and applicable NCC requirements. The aluminium (silver) side must be grounded — GSX50 grounding tape must be bonded on the silver side. Failure to ground a conductive shielding surface presents an electric shock risk and compromises low-frequency electric field shielding effectiveness.
