The name makes it sound more complicated than it is. OBD means on-board diagnostics. That changes one part of the situation. Instead of a direct connection to an exposed socket, there is a visible physical barrier that must be dealt with first. It adds delay and effort, which can matter when somebody is trying to move quickly and avoid attention. The Aus Security OBD2 Port Lock is an all-metal keyed cover for a standard, accessible 16-pin OBD-II socket. It is supplied with two keys, a mounting plate, security driver, fitting hardware and a storage case. Check the fit before you buy or install it. If the port is recessed, sits at an unusual angle or has tight trim around it, ask a mechanic or auto electrician to look at it first.

Different theft routes need different layers of protection.

Put each fob fully inside its pouch, close it properly and test that the vehicle does not respond. The port lock still needs a fit check beneath the dashboard.

A practical check for your car

You do not need to become a vehicle-security expert to make a sensible call. Check these points first:

  1. Find the port. It is usually below the driver's side of the dashboard. Confirm that it is the standard 16-pin OBD-II connector.
  2. Look at the clearance. There needs to be room around the connector for the mounting plate and lock. Do not force trim, bend the connector or fit a lock to a damaged port.
  3. Secure the cabin and keys. Lock doors and windows every time, remove valuables, keep keys out of the vehicle and park in a secure, well-lit spot where practical. These are core Victoria Police recommendations.
  4. Plan for servicing. Your mechanic may need the port. Remove the cover for authorised diagnostic work, then refit it after the service.
  5. Keep the backup parts elsewhere. A spare lock key and removal tool belong in a secure place away from the vehicle.
